The past few months have indeed been wrought with tragedy for the Jedi Order. During this time we have seen the loss of two respected members of the Jedi Council as well as the loss of one of our most promising padawans. Roughly a month ago Padawan Aurelius Brutus was tricked and brutally murdered as a right of passage for the Sith known as Geno Krall. Padawan Brutus was contacted by the Sith with the sole intention of luring him into a trap. Brutus saw through this deception and began working on his own accord, without council approval to convert this Sith to the true way of the Force, the Light. Unfortunately Padawan Brutus, was overly ambitious and paid the ultimate price. It was through him, a faithful servant of the Light, that Geno Krall became a Sith Lord. There was once a time when the Sith sought to challenge their students, and their trials were dangerous and potentially fatal. In these dark days it appears as if luring Jedi apprentices to them to be betrayed and murdered while defenseless, has been deemed a worthy test for a Sith Lord’s abilities. Rest assured that these events will never be repeated and that Aurelius Brutus will be the first, and only, Jedi Padawan to be brutally murdered in a half-hearted right of passage for a Sith “lord.” Aurelius had his heart in the right place, and he will be sorely missed.
Unfortunately Padawan Brutus has not been the only Jedi to meet and untimely end in recent days. Jedi Master and Council member Eli LaSalle, during the course of his duties in the New Republic Navy, fell prey to a targeted kidnapping and later, a political assassination. Master LaSalle was initially kidnapped by New Republic traitor Tomra Kotar, however Eli was able to turn the tables on his captor, but not before the ship they were fighting on jumped to lightspeed. Although the Republic, Jedi Order and our allies made rescue efforts, Master LaSalle was delivered to members of the Black Sun criminal organization, and subsequently executed. His loss is an unfortunate blow to the Jedi Order, and the council was left temporarily weakened, a problem exasperated by the recent retirement of Jedi Knight Tessek Garner. Eli served the Rebel Alliance, New Republic and the Jedi Order proudly for many years and his morality and desire to stand for the light will be remembered for a long time to come.
This weakness in the council has however been quickly dealt with due to the appointment of two new councilors. Master Shae Briston has served many roles in the former Rebel Alliance and most recently in the Falleen Federation. As a former military leader and Supreme Commander of the Rebel Alliance with years of experience under his belt, Master Briston should have no difficulty handling the various issues that may be brought before the Jedi Council. Knight Keishi von Ismay (née Miahr) has served in many civilian leadership positions in the New Republic and is currently Queen of the Anzatan Commonwealth. Her more peaceful background will no doubt be invaluable on the Jedi Council in the coming years.
The current Jedi Council is:
Grand Master Uzziah Akim
Master Terak Falcor
Master Thragg Craghorn
Master Owyn Darklighter
Master Shae Briston
Knight Keishi von Ismay
As well as the new Jedi council appointments recently several of our padawans recently completed their Jedi trials and have thus attained the rank of knight. They will no doubt continue to serve the Order in the spectacular way that they did during their initial stages of training, with such noble and selfless Jedi devoted to the way of the light the Order can only continue to grow stronger. Marching hand in hand with the new knights are the many new initiates and padawans that have joined the order in recent days, strengthening not only our numbers but also our collective strength and knowledge. They show great promise, and with the many painful lessons the Order has learned in the past two months we have only grown stronger. We remain confident that in time, we will have the strength to bring the goodness of the light side to all the members of the galaxy.
As we, the Jedi Order come together to mourn our losses, celebrate our victories and look to the Force for guidance, we would like to let the galaxy know something. No longer will we stand to be used a ‘right of passage’ for those that have fallen to the darkness and pain of the Sith Order. Stand strong and we will continue to stand beside you as loyal and faithful servants of the Light.

The symbol of the Jedi Academy appears for a few seconds, white crest surrounding lightsaber, poised against a clear blue sky, before cutting away. A Gand clad in Jedi robes can be seen on the bridge of a CR-90A. He bows his head before he starts to speak, his voice distorted slightly by the breath mask he wears.
“Greetings, gentle beings of the galaxy. This one addresses all today to relay the state of the Jedi. As most know, the Jedi organization was reformed some months ago with the founding of the Jedi Academy. The Academy was not brought back from the ashes of the previous, defunct Jedi Praxium; rather, it rose anew.
“The creation of the Academy united once again the agents of the light side of the Force who were spread around the galaxy, and brought them back, along with their apprentices, under a new, pristine banner, free of the taint of the Dark Side.
“Since its inception, the Academy has seen its members swell in number. With every round of Force Testing, now organized regularly among Light-Sided governments and factions, new Initiates are found and taken under the wings of the Order for proper training in the Force, and after some time, to swell the ever growing lines of the Jedi Knights and strengthen the Light Side of the Force, whether it is from their original factions or from the Academy itself. Cooperation between the Jedi and these Light-Sided governments has also become common, as Jedi knights often lend their strength to aid the production efforts of our allies, or jump into the fray alongside their military units.
“On another note, the Academy has worked hard to further organize its ranks, and these past few months have seen the resurgence of both the Jedi Healers and the Jedi Shadows, the first aiding the wounded and those in need around the galaxy, and the latter covertly working to take out agents of the Dark Side.”
The Jedi makes a pause, before looking directly into the holorecorder.
“Let it be known to all that the growing strength of the Light Side has caught the attention of an eminence in the Force. One of the strongest and wisest Jedi of all times has returned from solitary contemplation, to help the Order grow even further. Gand speaks of Master Relm, the first to heed the aforementioned calling. Master Relm has recently joined us, and his exceptional wisdom and strength in the Force will surely aid the Jedi Order in these times of conflict.
“Therefore, the Jedi Council wishes to extend an invitation to all Jedi who remain spread around in the galactic expanse, to approach us and play a part, whether by cooperating with the various building efforts, by training apprentices in the Force, by participating in the battles against evil or just to spread the influence of the Light in the home of Darkness.”
The short insect-like Jedi pauses once more. Drawing his lightsaber, the Gand ignites the elegant, archaic weapon. Holding it in front of him in a traditional stance, the brilliant green blade illuminates the entire room, casting out the few shadows that are present.
“This one has a final announcement. Because of the Academy’s aforementioned diplomatic ties, the inception of these dedicated Jedi specializations, the strengthening of our support throughout the Galaxy, and the return of perhaps the greatest Jedi of all time, the Academy has outgrown its role as a simple educational institution. Therefore, the Jedi Council, with the consensus of the entire Academy, now declares that the Jedi organization will be henceforth known as the Jedi Order. The Jedi Order will continue to train and educate each new generation of Jedi, but will also continue to work with the Light Sided governments and organization to repel the Darkness from this Galaxy.
“With that, Gand leaves, gentle beings of the galaxy. We in the Jedi Order sincerely expect to have rekindled even further the flame of hope in those hearts that belong to Good and the Light Side.”
The Jedi deactivates his lightsaber, returning it to its place beneath his cloak. The symbol of the Jedi Order appears on a white background, identical to that of the Academy. After a few seconds, it disappears, returning to the newsflash bulletin.
